Environmental Policy

J.E. Piccaver & Co (Gedney Marsh) recognise our responsibility for the environment in which we operate and strive to ensure our actions, whilst carrying out our business, are not detrimental to that environment.  Furthermore our intentions are to continue to monitor and positively nurture our environment in a sensitive, sustainable and forward thinking manner.  

The Company Directors have given a commitment to develop a commercially viable business whilst at the same time using environmentally sound methods which will eliminate or at least minimise any negative impact.  The Production Director is wholly responsible for environmental management. Several policies are in place to ensure we manage the environment with consideration for our future generations:

Energy Policy.

Objective:  Reduce energy costs and maximise efficient use of current energy and investigate sustainable alternatives. 
Target:   Complete external energy audit and produce report for Directors on sustainable alternatives.

Fertiliser Policy. 

.   Objective:  Maximise nutrient efficiency
Target:  Investigate Nitrogen use reduction in salads, Trial nutrient mapping, sap testing and efficient application.

Maintenance Policy. 

Objective:  Efficient use of plant and equipment. 
Target:  ensure all plant and equipment is maintained and serviced.

Crop Protection Policy.  

Objective:  Reduce pesticide inputs and residue outputs.   
Target:  Continue to follow pesticide residues in food reduction plan, investigate     alternatives and complete targets in VI Crop Protection Management Plan.

Crop Protection Policy. 

Objective:  Reduce pesticide inputs and residue outputs.   
Target:  Continue to follow pesticide residues in food reduction plan, investigate alternatives and complete targets in VI Crop Protection Management Plan.

Pollution Policy. 

Objective:  Zero major pollution incidents and eliminate or reduce minor pollution incidents. 
Target:  Continue to monitor and control pollution and complete targets in VI (Voluntary Initiative)  Crop Protection Management Plan

 Soil Management Policy. 

Objective: Long term sustainability. 
Target:  Continue to develop strategy for long term sustainability.

 Water Policy. 

Objective:  Reduce use of water and maximise efficiency 
Target:  Complete and action water LEAF/EU/EA plan

Waste Reduction, Reuse and Recycling Policy. 

Objective:  Reduce consumption of raw materials, re-use where feasible and recycle if not.  Land Fill as a last resort.
Target:  Complete DEFRA Waste Management Plan and set up better recycling routes.

Wildlife, Landscape Conservation and Enhancement Policy.  

Objective: Enhance wildlife and landscape features. 
Target:  Continue to monitor wildlife and enhance habitats.
   
These policies are reviewed annually and are used to plan effective environmental management.  Guidance from Leaf, Voluntary Initiative, DEFRA and customers is also used to plan environmental policy and monitor performance.  We aim to fully comply with LEAF and have targets set for the Voluntary Initiative Crop Protection Management Plan.
