Maintaining the balance of the countryside

We take great pride in our farms and their environments and have implemented many initiatives to support and enhance the countryside over the decades, including; the planting and subsequent laying of 15 miles of hedges, the management of many miles of biodiversity headlands and the creation of a 20 hectare wetland area which is now renown for its wildlife.

In 2011 Jepco were awarded the prestigious Silver lapwing award (sponsored by Waitrose) in recognition of our work in supporting the environment. The prize money which accompanied the trophy was used to crate 1 hectare woodland of native trees, which is now known as the Lapwing Wood.

Jepco also operates the environmental stewardship scheme at both entry and higher level.

Environmental Management
The key to achieving sound environmental performance is about communicating to everyone involved in our business what we are trying to achieve.
Our Environmental policy is communicated to all staff and forms the basis for the farm’s objectives and targets.
The Company Directors have given a commitment to develop a commercially viable business and ensure that sustainability and the environment are considered, which will continue to improve the farms Bio-diversity.
Jepco are aware and fully committed to its responsibilities towards the environment and a Company director is wholly responsible for its management.

Our Environmental Policy is based on:
1. Effective resource management through reducing and reusing waste and reducing raw material consumption
2. Eliminating or minimising appropriate polluting releases to the environment i.e. air, water, soil, including greenhouse gas mitigation
3. Optimising energy and water efficiency
4. Minimising adverse environmental effects through good agricultural practice and the use of Integrated Farm Management (IFM)
5. Compliance with all current legislation and ensuring all new, relevant legislation is complied with
6. Making contractors aware of our policy
7. Setting targets to improve environmental performance which is revised annually

This policy shows commitment to continuous improvement and forms the basis for the farm’s objectives and targets. It is relevant to the company’s activities and is documented.

We have developed from our Environmental Policy a documented plan that sets out our short-term and long-term (1 to 5 years) environmental objectives.

The plan includes aspects such as energy, water, pollution, GHG mitigation practices and other aspects of the business that impact on the environment.

We have set targets, with a timescale, to improve and enhance the environment.

This includes a link to our Whole Farm Conservation Plan, which also includes targets on water, soil, air, greenhouse gases and energy use. The targets are measurable and linked to monitoring when appropriate.
